For several generations, this support group of “Women of the Church”
have supported the ministry and congregational needs of Shepherd of the Valley. The tradition continues as PW today still supports multiple missions and ministries of our congregation, nurtures our faith through prayer and Bible study, provides opportunities for service, and hosts
special events.
Organized in 2015, the monthly meeting of this group of “Men of the Church” started with a Bible study and has since evolved into a treasured ministry of
congregational support for all our Covenant Partners. The group meets the second Sunday of each month for breakfast fellowship and deeper study of The Word.
Meals on Wheels started in Jefferson County in 1976 and our congregation
has worked with this community-based program since its beginning as Bessemer First Presbyterian and now as SVPC. Meals on Wheels is dedicated to addressing senior isolation and
hunger. This group of wonderful volunteers delivers nutritious meals, friendly visits and safety checks…all so important for the homebound elderly person
This group started its weekly meetings in 2015 as a gathering of young,
married couples and singles who desired a time of fellowship and study separate from morning Sunday School. This body of believers welcomes all who
seek a deeper understanding of The Word and those who seek to support and share the joys and challenges of being young believers in a changing world.
Silver Shepherds – An active group of seasoned servants, this group meets monthly for fellowship and dining at various gathering spots throughout the McCalla/Birmingham area. Though members are mostly 60 and up, they welcome all who enjoy spirited conversation, delicious food and a desire to learn more about our Creator’s Word and world.
Sunday School Groups – Shepherd of the Valley boasts several traditional Sunday School offerings for all ages each Sunday. There are children’s groups for toddlers up to youth aged and one for our retirees to nonagenarians. There are also adult classes for mixed-age groups such as The Friendship Class and The Koinonia Class. All who desire study and fellowship in The Word are welcome.

Turn your faith walk into action! This group of hiking believers loves to enjoy fellowship and God’s creation with reasonable, low-impact walks throughout some of our
area’s most beautiful parks and recreation areas. Activities are intermittent and scheduled during times of great Spring and Autumn weather, so pack your walking shoes and join along!
From age 6 to 60, this eclectic group of guitarists have varying levels of skill, but are unified in a desire to occasionally share the joy of string music with our Covenant Partners. The group meets two Sundays each month for a 30-minute group lesson. After that, it’s
practice “on your own,” until the next meeting!
Our adult handbell group has been ringing in the seasons for several decades
while also regularly enhancing our worship experience at SVPC with the beautiful sound of 5 octave English handbells. If you have an interest in the challenge of group handbell ringing, please join as there’s always room for one more! This group meets weekly from September through April for practice.
“Sing and make music from your heart to the Lord…” The Chancel Choir has
been an integral part of our worship for many decades helping to lead our Sunday worship
through offertories, choral calls to worship, ministry of music, and hymns while also giving
seasonal presentations. This group welcomes all for practice each Wednesday night at 6:30 and
for worship each Sunday at 11 a.m.
