Meet the Pastor and Staff at Shepherd of the Valley Presbyterian Church.
Jake was called to be the Pastor at Shepherd of the Valley Presbyterian in October of 2018. Prior to coming to SVPC, he was the Pastor of Covenant Presbyterian Church in Orange, CA and Grace Fellowship Presbyterian in Clanton, AL. Originally from Monroeville, AL, he graduated from Auburn University. He received his Master of Divinity from Birmingham Theological Seminary and completed his Doctor of Ministry from Covenant Theological Seminary in St. Louis. Jake is married to Alana and they have 5 children: Ellianna, Samuel, LeLe, Seth, and Shawn. Jake’s main responsibilities include preaching, leading the staff, moderating the Session, and praying/caring for the church and surrounding community.
Becky Jinright is SVPC’s Office Manager handling bookkeeping, accounting, membership management, time management, and scheduling, as well as correspondence and mailings, bulletins, newsletters, and general administration support to the staff, members and vendors since the fall of 2017. An Alabama native, Becky graduated from the University of Alabama with a bachelor’s degree in Mathematical Statistics. Becky specialized in Retirement Plans working with TPA firms, AmSouth and Regions bank. She has also worked in payroll management. Becky and her husband, Keith, have been members of First Presbyterian Church Bessemer/Shepherd of the Valley Presbyterian since 1994.
Barri has served as Director of Youth and Outreach since 2012, beginning at the former First Presbyterian Church of Bessemer, which transitioned to Shepherd of the Valley Presbyterian of McCalla. Originally from Bessemer, Barri is a graduate of Auburn University with a bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice specializing in Youth Aid Services. Barri worked in Lee County with abused and neglected children, as well as minors in the court system. She has been a member of FPCB and SVPC since 1979. She and her husband, Ted, feel God has blessed them with their amazing faith family at SVPC with which to worship and serve Christ. Barri’s responsibilities include overall congregational care as a staff member, support of the pastor in Sunday worship, and mentorship of the Shepherd’s Way small group. She also provides program support for children’s and youth activities, Operation Christmas Child and other mission and outreach ministries.
